Certified Coder

 

Akumin is a fast-growing organization.  We are currently looking for a Certified Professional Coder that will review codes to determine appropriate coding is applied and proper supporting documentation is submitted.

Responsibilities

 

Certified Coder

  • Make coding and payment determinations based on fee schedule, CPT, AMA, Medicare guidelines and standard of practice guidelines
  • Verify that pre-certification is assigned according to procedure performed
  • Reviews appeals for reconsideration of payment
  • Research and resolve coding projects as assigned
  • Document requested information from medical records
  • Perform ongoing analysis of medical record charts for the appropriate coding compliance
  • Meet daily production and quality goal averaging 95% accuracy rate on a consistent basis
  • Provide feedback when needed to Executive Management
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Certified Coder

  • 1 year prior coding experience
  • Knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10 CPT, HCPCs, and CPT codes, modifiers
  • Knowledge of basic software programs such as Word, Excel, etc
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

 

Other Skills:

  • Experience in a medical setting/environment is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy is strongly preferred

 

Education / Credentials:

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder) is required
